User On-Boarding

One of the largest problems that SIMVANA has been encountering is the need for User On-boarding in the trainer. Not just for the controls of the training application, but for the Virtual Reality Platform that it is built upon.

Due to the nature of our customers, we wanted to create a system that would allow for experienced users to hit the ground running as fast as possible, but also give new users a chance to get their feet wet. User triggerable contextual tutorials were added to each interactive object in the training space, and initial locomotion controls and training on triggering contextual tutorials were added on start.

UI/UX Refinement

A few areas of SIMVANA proved to be troublesome when testing outside of the internal development team: User Interface and the User Experience of some of the interactive elements, particularly, a tablet that the user interacts with in the world.

Users would accidentally click and expand tabs on the tablet, and hide buttons in categories that were needed to progress in their training. The Design team refactored areas of the tablet to simplify interaction, prevent accidental clicks, and provide short-cut buttons to return to their current section. This, coupled with on-screen indicators for objectives with added animation, haptic feedback for the controllers when we need the user to focus on their hands, and a few other general housekeeping items for simplifying overly complex interactions, and the user experience was improved!
